Tile thickness with glue to the floor

Floor tiles are a very interesting and practical solution. This type of flooring has several advantages, including high strength. Modern manufacturers offer a wide variety of different options, which vary in quality and size.

Types of floor tiles

Conventionally, there are two main categories of this type of material:

  • Ceramic - the most common when used in residential areas.
  • Porcelain tile - often used in industrial premises.

Ceramic products are not designed for operation in conditions of high loads, therefore, where there is a large cross-country capacity, this option should not be used. This tile is more suitable for the home.

Porcelain tile has a high resistance to mechanical stress. This allows the use of porcelain stoneware even in industrial premises where a large load is placed on it.

REFERENCE. When purchasing tile for laying indoors on the floor, it is recommended to choose packs from the same batch, since in different batches the color and size may differ slightly, but in the end it will be noticeable.

Popular sizes of ceramics

Manufacturers produce tiles with different sizes.

IMPORTANT. The smaller the size of the selected element, the easier it is to withstand the vertical load.

It can be square or rectangular. Among the rest, the largest demand is for options with sizes ranging from 100x100 mm to 300x300 mm. It is possible to distinguish such sizes 120x365 mm, 150x300 mm, 200x400 mm. Fans of large tiles on the floor choose elements with a size of 500x500 mm, 600x600 mm and even 1000x1000 mm.

REFERENCE. Larger tiles are easier and quicker to lay.

IMPORTANT. In different batches and even from different manufacturers, the characteristics of the elements may vary slightly. As a rule, the size of the error is within 3-5 mm.

As for the tile thickness, this parameter may also vary. Most often it is in the range from 6 to 12 mm. When organizing floor space in rooms with a large load, experts recommend choosing tiles with dimensions of approximately 200x200x11 mm.

The thickness of the adhesive under the tile on the floor

When planning a floor covering using floor tiles, it is very important to carefully calculate everything. For this, it is necessary to take into account such parameters as the size of the tile itself, as well as the thickness of the tile with glue on the floor. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account such a parameter as the thickness of the adhesive layer.

These parameters are very important, because if you miscalculate, you end up having to file the doors in height, otherwise they will not function. Other problems of this kind may also arise. The required adhesive thickness will depend on the quality of the substrate. Suppose you are working on a flat foundation, in this case, for a tile of 300x300 mm in size, experts recommend applying glue with a thickness of up to 4 mm. If the area of the tile is larger, the thickness of the adhesive layer must be increased, for example, to 7 mm. During the work with the uneven basis glue thickness can reach 20 mm.

IMPORTANT. If the height difference of the base in the room is more than 20 mm, before starting work it is recommended to level the base with a cement-sand screed.

Minimum and maximum value

Glue can be applied in various thicknesses, but there are certain limitations. For the purpose of reliable fixation of parts on the surface, it is necessary to observe the maximum and minimum limits.

The minimum border should be determined depending on the size of the tile and the characteristics of the base, but this layer is not less than 2 mm. If you work with heavy and overall tiles, this parameter should be increased to 4-5 mm. Now it is necessary to deal with the maximum value. As a rule, an increase in the thickness of the adhesive layer is necessary when working with an uneven base. If we are talking about significant flaws, it will be better to align it initially, and then proceed to tile laying. When laying a large layer of glue, it can lead to poor adhesion, and, of course, irrational financial and material waste.

Common parameters of porcelain

Such material as porcelain tile differs from ceramics in its properties and forms, parameters. The sizes of porcelain stoneware can vary and vary from 300x300 mm to 1500x1500 mm. Such a variety is very practical, since it is possible to select the required dimensions, which eliminates the need for cutting it.

According to the thickness parameter, it can be divided into three main categories:

  1. Thin, in this case, the thickness is 3-7 mm.
  2. Average. Thickness is 8-18 mm.
  3. Fat. Here the thickness is in the range of 19-30 mm.

The most widespread porcelain tiles with a thickness of 9-14 mm. This parameter will be enough for operation in premises, and also in premises of other appointment. Thicker parts are usually recommended by experts to use in unusual areas. These are open areas, production buildings. Glue for laying these large parts when working on an even basis will be enough 5-7 mm, but if you have to work with serious defects, this figure can be increased to 25 mm.
