How to protect a laminate from water

The basis of modern laminate flooring is wood. It is created by joining several layers, top coated with a laminated film. It is laid on the floor both in private homes and in administrative buildings. It is not difficult to take care of it, but it should be borne in mind that its deformation can occur from exposure to steam and moisture. Therefore, the laminate is not used for floors in bathrooms and bathrooms.

How to protect the laminate from moisture

In fact, there is no need to overthrow such a coating when some moisture gets in. The laminate can be protected from its effects. Manufacturers suggest additional impregnation to reduce the negative effect of moisture on this coating.

To do this, you can use special impregnations that protect against moisture. They are made on the basis of wax or other hermetic material. They are applied to joints and castle joints. Application should be carried out on the back of the lamellas. Surplus funds must be removed immediately.

The trading network has a large selection of impregnations, but the most convenient are impregnations made on the basis of wax. They are easily applied to the joints with a brush or foam sponge. In case of inaccurate application, excessive impregnation is easily wiped with a dry cloth.

Wax impregnation will also protect against creaking when using flooring. Castle coverings can also be treated with special mastic to improve fastening. This saves them from moisture and dust. It is especially good to use this method of protection against water in the kitchen.

Remember! Since waterproofing materials have a pungent smell, after working with impregnation, it is imperative to ventilate the room for several hours.

Other water protection methods

Other methods of protecting the laminate from moisture are also used. You can use a special protective film glued to the surface. It is simply attached and absolutely safe for health. Individual varieties of the laminate are already treated at the manufacturing stage by special means that are protected from moisture. After that, he is practically not affected by it.

You should also be careful that when laying laminate flooring was completely dry. A damp surface will lead to its rapid deformation. It is recommended that a moisture-proof film be laid down before installation. Dampness that spreads from the basement will negatively affect the laminate.

Various sealing agents, which are made on the basis of silicone, are characterized positively. If the laminate was processed by means of protection against moisture during production, then they need not be reused.

Remember! If the manufacturer indicates that the laminate was treated with paraffin or mastic, then additional impregnation is not required.

How to protect laminate joints from water

In the area of the joints of the boards, the upper layer sometimes swells. This may be due to poor quality locks, due to improperly selected thickness of the substrate, as well as due to improper operation. One way to prevent this from happening is to treat all joints and lock joints with impregnations and compounds with water-repellent properties. By means of processing it is possible to grease lamels, and also to put them on joints.

For additional protection of the laminate, its parts are coated with special glue when connected. Since it dries quickly, only one board has to be lubricated, and immediately insert it into the grooves.

Tools for processing can be both matte and glossy. Therefore, if a matte product was used for a glossy surface, this can lead to the fact that the surface is covered with stains, and will have an unaesthetic appearance.
