How to connect tulips to a TV

Many televisions have a cable in the kit, at the ends of which are located "tulips". They are designed to connect external devices. How to connect such a cable to the TV?

What is a "tulip"

This is the type of connector that is located at the end of the cable. It also serves as a marker, since it is painted in any color. Usually it is: red, yellow and white. It is by color that they find “sockets” for connection. You can hear another name: "bells." They are used to connect various devices to the TV:

  • audio and video equipment;
  • game consoles;
  • DVD player
  • VCR.

Other connection methods use SCART or coaxial cable.

Instructions for connecting the connector to the TV

The process of introducing connectors is called an analog composite connection. A 3xRCA cable is used, which is combined from 3 wires, interchangeable. But if the device has outputs suitable for HDMI connection, it is better to connect with an HDMI cable.

Modern TV models have special, composite inputs for “tulips”. They are painted in colors corresponding to their connectors:

  1. Red (provides signal transmission. Designed for the right channel).
  2. Yellow (activates the video signal).
  3. White (provides audio or mono signal from the left channel).

The action algorithm is not particularly difficult, the plugs are inserted into the appropriate inputs, marked with the corresponding color.

Connecting tulips to the TV can happen this way. There are models in which all inputs have the same color. Then the following steps should be taken:

  • find a group of "tulips", with the sign "IN" or two arrows;
  • find the appropriate group on the device itself, with the sign "AV2" and attach the bundle;
  • determine the purpose of the connectors on the TV by the following characters: “V” (video), “L” (left input for sound), “R” (right input for sound).

How to connect tulips to the TV? Models with 2 connectors only support mono sound. Yellow and white are connected here. Red remains unconnected.

It should be noted that the screens should have a small diagonal size when connecting “tulips”. Otherwise, the image will be blurred, showing a fuzzy picture.

To configure and connect an external device:

  1. Connect the wires to an external device (player, set-top box): yellow to the video output, others to the audio output.
  2. Connect the wires to the TV: yellow in the VIDEO connector ("Y"). White and red in the AUDIO connector (“L” and “R”).
  3. Find the designation “AB” (on the remote control, press SOURCE. In the designations that appear, press “AB”).
  4. Check the power of the connected device (it must be turned on).
  5. Wait for the signal to appear on the TV screen.
  6. Apply the remote control of the connected device for control.
  7. If there is no picture or sound, you should double-check all the steps to find the error.

On different models, inputs can be in different places. Some models can only be connected using an adapter.

Problems that may arise during work

How to connect tulips to the TV? Sometimes, after connecting, problems may occur. They begin to appear immediately. Among the most common are:

  • disconnecting the cable (plug out of the hole);
  • burned out electronics (to avoid such trouble, the connection is made with the TV turned off);
  • no image (the connector was inserted in the wrong place);
  • there is no yellow connector on the TV (it can be blue, white, green, two red. In this case, when connecting a digital set-top box, go to its settings and mark the color system as “PAL” or “SECAM”);
  • there are no inputs and outputs for “tulips” on the device (an adapter can be purchased);
  • when connecting to a VCR, there are no colors corresponding to “tulips” on the TV (you should take the “OUT” signal from the connected device. On the TV, find the group of “tulips” responsible for “IN”. Before connecting, press “AV” on the TV menu);
  • if you start the connection not from the “earth”, but from the signal wires, then due to the potential difference between the “earths” you can destroy the interface.

If you be careful, follow safety precautions, then many troubles can be avoided. The best option is to invite a specialist who professionally and quickly solves the problem.
