What does an office chair consist of?

Work in the office involves a long sitting position. However, if sitting uncomfortable, then the work will not be productive. Moreover, sitting in an uncomfortable chair for a long time is even contraindicated. A modern office chair is a rather complicated device, which consists of many details. All this design is aimed at ensuring that the work is productive and the health of the employee is maintained at the proper level.

What does a chair consist of?

As already mentioned, this is a whole set of individual elements. In addition to the back and seat itself, which form the basis, this set includes armrests, without which it is impossible to imagine a chair. And besides: a cross on which rollers are installed. A gas lift is attached to the crosspiece - a device through which height is adjustable. Some models are also represented by a special headrest, as well as a roller under the lower back.

Frame

IMPORTANT! The wireframe is the most basic element.

In its structure, two types can be distinguished:

  • A monolithic frame combines both the back and its seat. This design makes it more reliable and durable. A similar design can be used without armrests, if the armrests are supposed to be removable.
  • Non-monolithic frame - is a structure where the seat and backrest are connected either with armrests, or with the help of a metal plate or other functional element.

Backrest and seat

The backrest can be absolutely any height. Both high and low. It can be of any shape, both rectangular and with rounded edges. Most importantly, the angle between the back and the seat should be a little more than ninety degrees. With such an angle, excessive load on the human organs is reduced, body weight is distributed over the entire surface of the chair. In addition, this angle allows the employee not to stoop during work.

A seated person should be able to lean back at any time. Some types of armchairs designed for offices have a special mechanism that synchronizes the operation of the back and seat. Thus, they simultaneously change their angle of inclination. The sitting angle does not change when changing the tilt, the legs also remain in the same place.

It is considered good form for a chair that the normal position of the back of a person during work should be in the form of the Latin letter "S". Those. The device is designed to have an anatomical structure. After all, the appearance of this letter corresponds to the correct position of the spine. The back is not only designed to support the back of a person, it must also properly distribute the person’s weight and load. Some models have the ability to adjust the back.

NOTE! The entire mass of a person is divided among themselves the seat and back of an office chair.

About sixty percent of the total mass is allocated to the seat, about twenty-five percent to the back, and the remaining mass is divided between the seat and the floor. Based on this, the shape of the ideal seat has long been calculated and reduced to only two requirements:

  1. The entire mass of a person should be evenly distributed on the seat;
  2. The seat should be such that the person sitting in it, can easily take advantage of all the advantages of the back of the chair.

Of particular note is the importance of being able to adjust the height of the seat.

Gas lift and cross

One of the important parts of any chair standing in the office should be considered a gas lift. It is a kind of cylinder made of steel. Inert gas is pumped inside this cylinder. The objective of this mechanism is to adjust the seat height, and it also acts as a shock absorber.

Gas lifts are divided by the length at which the rod goes out, as well as by the internal pressure mechanism. The quality of this mechanism is determined by the category assigned to it. There are four in total, and the highest category of quality is the fourth.

The crosspiece is the base of the chair. It is to him that the rollers are attached, which allow the employee to move around. And everything else is already installed on the crosspiece. Accordingly, the larger the size of the chair itself, the larger the diameter of the cross must also have. It seems like, it seems, there is nothing complicated in the cross and there is no. But this is a deceptive look. Behind the apparent simplicity, a rather complex product is hidden, which carries the entire load on itself.

REFERENCE! The higher the quality of the raw material from which the cross is cast, respectively, the higher its strength.

Armrests

The presence of armrests is not so much aesthetic in nature. Armrests can have a variety of configurations. They can be either curved or straight. They can be given a massive look, or vice versa very strict and concise. The task of the armrests is completely different. They are designed to take on the weight of a person’s hands. They relax the shoulders, neck of a person and his spine. And they give the hands a comfortable position, which complements the comfort of work. If according to the staffing table, the employee has to spend a long time in the company of a computer, it is important to have a chair in which the armrests can be adjusted in height. The height of the employee and the height of the armrests should be consistent.

Upholstery and filler

For the upholstery of modern armchairs, at present, artificial materials are used, genuine leather or its substitutes are often used. Synthetic materials have greater wear resistance, increased tensile strength, and “spools” are not formed on them. These materials wear less. In the production process, the materials from which the upholstery will be produced are impregnated with special compounds that increase antistaticity. All this allows you to achieve high quality fabrics.

Almost all modern armchairs and not only office chairs have the same filler. Either a foam rubber filler or polyurethane foam is used. In principle, this is the same thing, but there is a slight difference. Foam rubber is not the most durable material, it has increased air permeability, it goes into production in the form of blocks of various thicknesses, from which the desired shape is subsequently cut out. In contrast, polyurethane foam is more durable. It already has an anatomical appearance.

Work mechanism

To sit well in the chair, work well, it is very important that this chair has adjustment mechanisms. And not just had, but these mechanisms should be located in a conveniently accessible place. From the whole variety of adjustment mechanisms, several types can be distinguished. The mechanisms can be divided into simple, complex and swing mechanisms.

Simple mechanisms only allow for height adjustment. Typically, this type of mechanism is used on chairs for employees.

The swing mechanism is designed to lock the chair in working position.

And only complex mechanisms allow you to adjust the chair "for yourself", not only allow you to maintain health, but also increase productivity.

Conclusion

A modern office chair is the brainchild of high technology, over the production of which a huge number of people are working. And these are not only designers, but also doctors, designers. After all, the task of a modern chair is not just decoration of the office. The chair should allow the employee to perform their work efficiently and maintain their health, which is important.
