Connection of a water heater to a water supply system

Without warm water, living is not too comfortable. Only a few lucky people can rely on a centralized supply of hot water, and then it is not always around the clock. Installing an electric boiler or gas water heater will help solve the problem. The installation rules, with diagrams and a description of important nuances, will be discussed in the article.

The first thing to decide is the model of the water heater. Depending on the size of the family, where it will be, taking into account the material of the walls and the availability of free space, as well as taste preferences, the device is selected with the necessary parameters. The main parameters of a storage water heater are its performance, power consumption, overall dimensions, as well as its location - vertical or horizontal, floor or mounted.

The location of the heater should be thought out so that, on the one hand, provide convenient access to it - both to the adjustment knobs and water supply valves, and provide for its simple maintenance - the ability to easily be removed from the wall if cleaning is necessary, if the boiler is mounted. In addition, the water heater should not clutter up the space.

After choosing the model and location of the device, proceed to the preparatory phase of installation. Having familiarized themselves with the instructions attached to the device, they check its equipment, including fasteners, make sure that the wiring required for powering the boiler is made, prepare tools, pipes, fittings, valves.

If a floor-mounted version of the heater is connected, then it is placed in a place previously selected for these purposes. Special fuss with a punch in this case is not required. For a wall-mounted boiler, fasteners are provided in the form of anchors, on which it is suspended. It should be noted right away that bulkheads made of gas and foam concrete are an inappropriate place for installing boilers, it is better not to put such experiments.

After the fasteners have been made, it is necessary to turn off the supply of cold water in the system where the insert will be made. When water is diverted to the heater, a ball valve, a coarse water filter, and a non-return valve are mounted in the system, after which the pipe is brought to the boiler. A hot water outlet pipe coming from the boiler is led through a mixer along with cold water to consumers - showers, wash basins and so on.

After wiring through the water, the boiler is connected to a power supply network through a separate machine. You can power it through an outlet in the usual way, but the first option is more reliable and safer. At the end of installation work, open the valve with cold water and supply power to the water heater. The performance check is carried out as follows - the thermal relay is expected to operate, then the temperature of the heated water is checked.

Automation does not always work, and if the thermal relay fails, when a certain temperature is reached, shutdown may not occur. In the best case, the owner will notice in time that the water in the boiler begins to bubble, slowly boiling. With a worse outcome, the bulb bursts from excess pressure, and hot water fills the contacts, causing a short circuit. Total - defective heater and wiring.

To avoid this, a safety valve is mounted in the system. Install it in a pipeline with cold water just before the boiler. Its operation occurs at a pressure of 8 bar. It acts like this - if the pressure in the boiler is lower than in the inlet pipe with cold water, water enters it. As soon as the pressure is equalized, the valve triggers. When the heater is operating in an emergency mode, with a pressure of 8 bar and above, a small valve is triggered and excess liquid is drained. It should take care of its tap by connecting a rubber or plastic tube of the appropriate diameter to the valve terminal.

To monitor pressure, it is recommended to connect a manometer to the valve and use it to control the situation.

The figure shows where the risers with cold water are located, they are appropriately signed. Numbers 1 and 2 indicate shut-off valves for cold and hot water, 3 and 4 - also valves that regulate the flow of water through the apartment. The faucet 3 is blocked, if necessary, to shut off the water in the apartment, and the fourth is shut off when the boiler is in operation, in order to avoid hot water leaving the house riser. Number 5 indicates the place where the check valve is mounted. Number 6 - tap to drain the water from the boiler. It is used when it is necessary to clean, repair or dismantle the device.

In these cases, the water from the boiler is completely drained, and this rule should be strictly observed. A crane is not an essential element, but in some situations it can greatly simplify life.

To create forced draft exhaust and supply ventilation are used, while natural draft is based on the laws of physics and does not require additional equipment.
