A personal computer involves the use of a mouse and keyboard as control elements in games. But this is not enough for all users. There are individuals who prefer to hold a joystick rather than a mouse.
What needs to be prepared
To create a PC joystick, you will need several items:
- Joystick from PlayStation, Sega, or any other.
- Any unnecessary device or other source of a working USB output (for simple models, it is desirable that this be a keyboard).
- Soldering iron.
- Scissors.
- 25-pin LPT PORT (PlayStation gamepads only).
In the case of the PlayStation manipulator, the connection method will be easier, although it will take a little twist of the wires. When it comes to simpler things, like a gamepad from a shogi, here you will need an understanding of the operation of the chip with buttons.
How to make a do-it-yourself USB stick for PC
The first way to create it is for PlayStation models. Take and cut the very end of the wire from the manipulator. Solder all wiring except red to the LPT port with this configuration:
- The upper 12th contact row: black from the manipulator and gray / black from USB - to the fifth and sixth (together) to the left.
- Bottom 13 pin row: orange is the second on the left, yellow is the third on the left, blue is the fourth on the left, green is the second on the right, brown is the fourth on the right.
After that, you need to cut off the end of the USB wire from any unnecessary device, then solder the black contact from there to the LPT port, as described above. Red wiring from USB and joystick solder together. Insulate the wires. For the joystick to work, you will first need to connect the LPT port, and then the USB cable. Disable in reverse order.
The second method is from joysticks for eight-bit consoles:
Determine on the keyboard which buttons will be required for normal operation (direction arrows, A, B, C, and so on).- Track and remember the contact paths to the controller (a small rectangular microcircuit on the keyboard) from the required buttons.
- Solder the wiring to the necessary contacts on the keyboard controller.
- Solder the second ends to the contacts of the buttons on the board.
- Place the board and the beginning of the USB cable inside the manipulator.
- Key functions can be changed in the game or emulator settings.
Determine on the keyboard which buttons will be required for normal operation (direction arrows, A, B, C, and so on).
