How to lay linoleum on a parquet board

A popular and reliable floor covering, used for finishing for quite a long time, is parquet. Maintaining the appearance and integrity of the surface requires periodic care associated with the use of scraper, grinders, as well as applying varnish to preserve the structure of the tree. These works force periodically to remove furniture from the room and be in a state of repair for at least a week. To get rid of the need for such work, modern vinyl material is laid on top of the old coating.

Can linoleum be laid on top of parquet

A correctly laid wooden coating can serve as a reliable basis for laying linoleum in the case when the following conditions are met:

  • there are no dips and there is no creaking when loading on those or other sites;
  • destroyed places must be repaired and leveled;
  • height differences can be eliminated;
  • wooden base is able to be ventilated;
  • no fungus or mold.

ATTENTION! A small mold area is completely removed to dry, unaffected wood parts and repaired.

When using the old base, each square meter of parquet is carefully examined so that after laying the vinyl material it is not necessary to eliminate the shortcomings of the wooden floor.

What linoleum to lay on a parquet board

Varieties of modern polymer coatings allow you to divide linoleum according to the criteria:

  • wear resistance class;
  • width
  • thickness.

The width of the material is determined, to a greater extent, by the size of the room: the distance between the adjacent walls along which the coating is laid is measured and increased to the nearest standard value of the dimensions of the feedstock. Thickness and class, determined by the purpose of the room.

The base for linoleum will be rigid, which means that it is advisable to use a household coating on a soft basis for a living room. When laying material in public places, a semi-commercial or commercial type of vinyl is recommended. This name is typical for raw materials, which are protected by a thick film that increases the life of the product.

REFERENCE! Household products have a greater selection of colors and ornaments.

How to lay linoleum on a parquet board

Laying a new coating will require the sequential implementation of several stages. Let's consider each of them in more detail:

  1. First of all, a survey of all sections of the old base is carried out. Visually identify areas requiring repair or replacement of the upper layer of parquet. Check the floor for squeaks or dips. Using a 2-meter (or longer) rule with a water level, height differences on the surface are checked. High places are marked with a pencil.
  2. After inspection, they begin to repair the identified defects. To do this, dismantle the damaged boards and install the whole ones, after selecting the material of the required size.
  3. Then, using looping or grinding equipment for wooden floors, the marked high places are processed to level the parquet. After repairing and removing the tubercles from the surface of the wooden base, it is recommended that the old parquet be treated with biological products to protect against mold and insects that can destroy the tree.
  4. Using the rule, check the relief of the treated floor. Deviation error at 2 meters should not exceed 2 mm. If necessary, grinding is repeated several times until 3-5 cavities remain, which are puttyed with special mixtures.
  5. Linoleum is spread on the floor and cut at a distance of 15-25 mm from the walls. After that, they give 2-3 days for shrinkage of linear dimensions and are attached either to glue or with the help of skirting boards that press the perimeter of the coating.

ATTENTION! In the winter season, you can’t immediately roll the roll! He needs to warm up to room temperature so that he regains the required ductility. For this, linoleum is brought in one day before the planned spreading time.

If you use glue, then let it dry for a day and then begin to operate the modern coating.

IMPORTANT! When laying linoleum on the base, which cannot be processed with a looping machine, and nails or screws are found on the surface, the parquet is first puttyed, then a sheet substrate is made. For this, it is recommended to use fiberboard.

Using parquet for laying linoleum is not only possible, but also saves money on dismantling the old coating, and also saves more heat in the house than any other base for modern vinyl material.
