How do wireless TV headphones work

Currently, there are more than two hundred manufacturers of headphones. The most famous are SONY, PHILIPS, PANASONIC, LOGITECH, BOSE, AKG, B&W, FOCAL, SENNHEISER, BEYERDYNAMIC and others. The number of models produced by the world industry is more than three thousand and it seems difficult to choose from this set suitable.

The basis of the division of wireless headphones by type is the method of transmitting a signal from a source:

  • with a carrier frequency of up to 800 MHz - the signal is transmitted unhindered in the VHF range in a radius of up to 8 meters, the frequency range is 86-106 MHz, powered by AAA batteries;
  • infrared radiation operating within line of sight;
  • Bluetooth (bluetooth) - radio waves in the range of 2.4 - 2.4835 GHz;
  • Wi-Fi is a technology for transmitting data according to the IEEE 802.11 standard at a frequency of 2.4 GHz.

The signal transmission from the TV receiver, smartphone, tablet, laptop, computer and other equipment to the headphones (headset) is mainly carried out under the control of the Bluetooth system.

The convenience of using a wireless headset is obvious. The absence of wires allows you to receive audio content at any distance without interference to others.

ATTENTION! However, using a wireless headset also has disadvantages. The sound quality is worse than with a cable, batteries are required that need to be recharged from time to time or to change batteries.

It should be noted that different types of headsets have additional functions and features that improve the quality of their use. It:

  • connection using a cable - in the absence of power in the headset;
  • the presence of a microphone;
  • noise suppression;
  • program switching management;
  • volume control and some others.

Currently in use are televisions of various types and companies and different years of release. Connecting a wireless headset to a particular TV model may vary. TV receivers of recent years have USB connectors. The signal is transmitted by a sound transmitter inserted in the USB port. Connection is reduced to the following:

  1. Use the menu to activate Bluetooth.
  2. Turn on the headset.
  3. Activate it using the menu.

TVs of the early years of production do not have a USB connector, but are equipped with a composite analog output (two jacks, painted in white and red) and a 3.5 mm jack jack for turning on wired headphones. Connecting to such models is carried out using the adapter included in the analog connectors. The adapter transmitter emits a radio signal picked up by the headphone receiver.

ATTENTION! Before buying wireless headphones for a TV, you need to make sure that it has a Bluetooth system. It is not on all televisions. If it is absent, you will need to buy an adapter with the headphones.

Bluetooth adapters are available in two types - for one pair of headphones and for two. In addition to the transmitter, the first type of adapter also has a receiver that allows you to receive signals from all nearby electronic devices equipped with the Bluetooth module - smartphones, music centers, TVs, etc. Two pairs of wireless headphones can be connected to the TV via Bluetooth transmitters.

Wirelessly connecting a headset to a TV is a useful invention of mankind, helping to bring comfort to everyone. A person at the TV can easily leave the room for a cup of coffee, tea or other necessities, continuing to listen to music, soundtracks of the movie and, most importantly, a football report.
