Which is better: grill pan or electric grill

Connoisseurs of delicious and healthy food respect the grill for the fact that during the frying process you do not have to "drown" foods in fat. Those who love beautiful serving appreciate appetizing golden stripes. And with the fact that vegetables, meat and fish cooked in this way remain juicy and healthy, neither cooks, nor doctors argue.

Electric grill or grill pan

When it comes to complementing your kitchen arsenal with this invention, many housewives find it difficult. The grill pan bribes at a relatively low price. An electric grill is more expensive, but after all, it came from a professional kitchen, which means that it can do more. Both options are suitable for preparing unique dishes, give an almost identical result. But they have different opportunities.

What can an electric grill

He can quickly and efficiently fry a large steak without the use of oil. On the grill, you can bake or stew vegetables, cook scrambled eggs or seafood. If the surface is combined, then this can be done at the same time. The device is able to maintain the temperature of the finished dish. The cook does not have to control the process of cooking products - programs will do this.

It is not possible to completely replace the oven or frying pan with an electric grill, but reducing the need for them is easy.

Of the minuses, it is worth highlighting cumbersomeness - even the most compact desktop models require space reserved for them. The high cost is justified by the number of additions, functions and operating modes. When buying, it is advisable to pay attention to:

  • removable trays for collecting fat - partially facilitate the fight against smoke;
  • removable work surface - reduce the complexity of caring for the device;
  • the ability to adjust the lift of the lid - expands the range of dishes;
  • size affects the number of servings prepared simultaneously.

Functions and features of the grill pan

The advantage and disadvantage of this cookware is compactness. A grill pan does not require a separate space for storage, but it is also unable to cook more than four servings at a time. The shape of the product does not affect its weight - all variants of high-quality cookware are heavy, which ensures uniform heating, but significantly complicates the cooking process. Corrugated bottom eliminates contact of products with fat and juice, ensuring the preservation of natural taste. But you can’t do without oil at all - you need to lubricate the grill ribs before cooking, and the entire pan before putting it into storage.

When buying a grill pan, it is important to pay attention to the height of the ribs - it cannot be less than 5 mm, otherwise the dishes will not cope with the tasks assigned to it. Another point - there should be a nozzle for draining fat, without which it is difficult to accurately remove excess juices, preventing them from burning.

The need to control the cooking process can play a trick on novice cooks, because it’s very easy not to fry or burn foods. Part of the problem is solved if the pan is equipped with a removable handle and placed in the oven - there you can set the temperature and cooking time.

What to choose

Both devices do a good job of frying foods that are almost no different from those cooked on a barbecue. Both the pan and electric grill need a good extract. On this their similarities end and the differences affecting the choice begin.

An electric grill can cook more foods at the same time and can do this automatically. It is indispensable in a large family, but inconvenient in a small kitchen. And the high cost makes the purchase unjustified if you cook in the device only occasionally.

The grill pan is compact and does not require a designated storage area. But to cook in it a lot will not work. An ideal solution for small families, small kitchens and culinary specialists who are not too keen on cooking grilled dishes.
