DIY hanging chair

Not much can compare with relaxing in a comfortable chair. And if it’s also a hanging option, complementing complete relaxation with measured swaying, then the pleasure doubles. True, the purchase of such furniture is not always available: either too expensive, or "it's not that." But this is not a reason to abandon a comfortable corner, because you can do it yourself, without unnecessary financial and labor costs.

DIY hanging chair

Before you start creating a hanging chair, you should consider the mounting system. There are several options:

Axial - to the ceiling and floor, they can only rotate around its axis and are an ideal solution for small apartments and children's rooms.

Ceiling - the direction of movement is not limited by anything, and the location depends only on the altitude of the creator’s imagination: an apartment, a balcony, a porch or a tree branch.

When choosing one of these options, it is worth considering the type of mount. The ceiling hook is suitable for concrete not hollow or coffered floors. Hollow ceilings require a mounting rail or chemical anchors.

To the counter - Mobile version of the chair. It can be easily moved, but the rack itself is better to buy ready-made - at home it is quite difficult to make it.

Rigid armchair

Habitual swings, a cozy cocoon or an original nest - made on a rigid frame, these products have increased reliability and durability. If the base is properly treated, then it is not afraid of moisture and direct sunlight. Due to this property, such chairs have taken root in the courtyards of private plots. But this does not mean that they will not find a place in the interior of the apartment.

The only drawback of furniture on a rigid frame is the weight. It requires reinforced attachment points, which have to hold both the structure itself and the person located on it.

Frame Material Selection

When it comes to a hanging chair, the first ones to remember are plastic models. Colored or transparent, acrylic or plexiglass - they perfectly complement modern styles: hi-tech, futurism or techno. The advantages, in addition to the original appearance, include lightness and durability. It is easy to look after such material, but to create a chair with your own hands will not work out of them. However, as well as wrought iron furniture.

Rattan, vine and wood are classics of the genre. Comfortable and attractive armchairs from them perfectly complement the eco style. Wood and artificial rattan are good for creating garden furniture. Natural vines on the street quickly darken, and if they are also poorly processed, they quickly lose their elasticity.

Wooden structures are heavier than analogues from vines, but their main advantage is the ability to independently turn wood and a comfortable chair, even if you had not had to do carpentry before. For the manufacture of original furniture you will need:

  • processed board (16 pcs.) about 60-70 cm long, 12-15 cm wide and at least 1 cm thick;
  • nylon cord - 10 m;
  • drill and drill on wood;
  • sandpaper;
  • varnish.

The procedure for manufacturing the chair is as follows:

  1. 1.5 -2x cm from the edge of the board, through holes are drilled along its long sides with an interval of 5 cm.
  2. The blanks are sanded and varnished.
  3. A cord is threaded into the holes. To do this, two adjacent boards are placed side by side, then nylon is drawn into their holes in a checkerboard pattern. The final weaving resembles crosses.
  4. In the upper and second from the bottom boards of the resulting canvas, pairwise holes are drilled for bearing cords. The distance from the edge is about 3.5 cm.

The chair is ready. It remains to suspend it and supplement it with pillows or sheathe a cloth for greater convenience.

Tight Material

In the case when a solid, load-bearing and load-bearing frame is fitted, only 2 requirements are imposed on the finishing materials: abrasion resistance and coloring suitable for the design.

With designs like "nest" everything is a little more complicated. Their frame usually consists of 1-2 metal rings, the main task of which is to preserve the shape of the chair. The weight of the filling and the person is taken by the material, and only then is distributed between the suspension cables through the hoop. Therefore, criteria such as strength and durability are important. And for models that are planned to be placed on the street, moisture resistance is also desirable.

Armchair without frame

Frameless options that are no less convenient and practical, but more attractive in terms of self-production, deserve special attention. For the manufacture of a swing on laces, any dense textile will do. Knitwear will give a special effect to a hammock chair. If there are macrame masters in the house, you can even create structures that are impressive with their “airiness”.

Soft chair with cords

A vivid example of the beauty of simplicity. You only need a piece of fabric, a cord and a sewing machine or a needle and thread. The sides of the future chair are unbent and sewn to the rest of the canvas, forming pockets under the rope. Then the cord is threaded into them and a cozy corner is almost ready. You can attach it directly to the ceiling hook, then you get a very compact version. If the cords are pre-fixed at the edges of a wooden or metal plank, then sitting in a chair will become a little more convenient.

Hammock

This interpretation of the invention of the Indians differs from the "hanging bed" only in size. For manufacturing you will need:

  • rectangular piece of fabric;
  • braid for processing edges;
  • cord;
  • wooden plank.

The narrow side of the material is reinforced with braid, simultaneously sewing ropes to it. Then the cords are collected and fixed on the bar, giving the hammock the desired shape. The chair is ready, it remains only to hang it.

Recommendations, tips, ideas

The chair can be added with originality by a patchwork seat. To do this, patchwork fabric is sewn on top of a solid base.

The tatting technique visually adds to the fabulous weightlessness designs. But if the chair is made at home, it is better to give preference to a simpler and more reliable macramé - weaving will not stretch over time and will not change shape. Better yet, simply knit the fabric, then you can do without additional pillows in the chair.
