The TV itself switches channels without a remote control

A woman turned to a familiar master who has a Samsung TV, one of the latest models, living his life - when you turn on the network, you quickly scroll through the channels, the sound spontaneously increases, then crawls to zero. Pulling / plugging in the cord did not help. After half an hour, the device itself turned off, it did not respond to pressing the buttons on the remote. And, according to the master, this is not an isolated case.

As practice shows, this problem arises for several reasons. Let's start with a simple one that everyone is able to solve on their own.

First reason

If the TV has healed its own life, then first of all, you need to check the remote control for sticking one or more buttons. The contact is closed, the signal constantly goes from the remote control, so the channels are switched, the volume or brightness of the picture is adjusted. It may occur as a result of liquid, grease getting on the panel, contamination or oxidation of the contacts, mechanical damage, wear of the button membrane over time.

It’s easy to identify the cause - take the remote control out of the room or remove the batteries from it. If the problem persists, then open the remote control and carefully inspect the board, the buttons themselves. Pay special attention to the buttons that you press most often (probably: "Power", switching channels, volume). If there is no obvious mechanical “sticking” of the buttons, then wipe all the contacts with alcohol. Or just buy a new remote.

IMPORTANT: You can check the “stuck” or broken channel switching button simply by pressing the "˄" "˅" (up, down) and listening to clicks. If they are not in some button, then the reason is in it.

The second reason is more serious to eliminate it will have to disassemble the TV.

The second reason

This problem occurs only with the mechanical buttons on the LCD control unit. They, too, can “stick”, break, their wire may fray. The problem manifests itself in different ways: to be “floating” - to occur and disappear after a while, turn on / off spontaneously, touch only certain modes, and not respond to signals from a known-good remote control.

As practice shows, this is a fairly common defect. It has many varieties - when you press the volume increase, the channels switch or vice versa (control from the remote control without comment), the device itself enters standby mode and no longer responds to commands. The worst that could be is the entrance to the service menu, a change in which threatens serious problems in the operation of the device.

To exclude this trouble, we put the TV on the screen, having not previously forgotten to put a blanket on the table, remove the back cover. On the side or front (depending on the model) surface we see a block of buttons. Disconnect the cable from it. Now we try to control the TV from the remote control. If everything goes well, then the problem is identified.

This can be considered a troubleshooting - the TV is working, normally controlled. If you want to repair it completely, then first we call all the wires of the cable that connects the motherboard to the control board, all the components. Defective parts and elements are replaced.

Now consider the reasons for the independent life of the TV, which you can only identify. To eliminate them, you must have skills in working with a soldering iron, know the TV device, the basics of radio technology. Therefore, a further description of the malfunction and remedies is provided for information only.

Reason three and the rest

So, you disconnected the cable from the connector, but the problem persists - the TV continues to be disgraceful. Unfortunately, the microprocessor is to blame. This unit is not so easy to replace - due to the variety of models, it is difficult to find, it is expensive. You can try to "pull up" the voltage at the keyboard input. We supply a limiting resistor + 5V through 100 Ohms. In this case, the TV keyboard is locked, control remains only with the remote control.

Another solution to the problem is flashing the ROM, because the keyboard layout in many models is prescribed programmatically. Or maybe such actions are not needed, it will be enough to reset the memory.

Rarely, but it happens that the cause of unauthorized switching of channels can be a short circuit of the processor output or the strapping circuit to the case. This may be a consequence of such a closure. Of course, a person who is familiar with the basics of radio engineering, who knows how to work with a soldering iron, can fix the problem. But it’s easier and cheaper to take the TV to the workshop.

REMIND: Trying to save money and repair the TV yourself, you risk losing the device, causing harm to yourself and your loved ones. It will come out much more expensive. Repair should be carried out by a professional craftsman.
